Mughul and Indian heroes and heroines, who forgotten Hindu hero have been brought to light in this history of India. He was Hemachandra popularly known by his nick name Himu. Beginning his life as a greengrocer in a township in Mewat, he became the most powerful man in North India when Akbar ascended the throne. Himu conquered Delhi and Agra after defeating the Mughul forces, and ascended the throne of Delhi under the title of Vikramaditya with the imperial canopy raised over his head. Hemachandra was thus the first and the last Hindu who assumed the imperial status in North India after the defeat and death of Pritiviraja nearly eight hundred years before. Nut for an acident (P.101) Hemachandra and his successors would probably have ruled India, and the short period of Mughul.
